Les saw Dr. Lee yesterday, Monday, April 19, 2010.
His protein level was 25, which would normally mean that he would be having quite a bit of pain and a sick stomach. Les is not normal, though and as yet does not have these symptoms.
He will continue to see Dr. Lee every three months to monitor the growth of the tumor and see how he is feeling.
Dr. Lee said they are always coming up with new treatments, but Les does not want to go through anything that would make him have more side affects and still not add more years.
He just keeps going.
God has been watching over us and keeping us at peace. I know He will continue to be our strength.

Tuesday's appointment
Les saw Dr. Lee today. The blood test showed that his protein level was down, which indicates that the liver is not functioning properly. Dr. Lee said it is not at an alarming level. On the whole Dr. Lee seems to think that the cancer has slowed down some and is not as aggressive as it has been.
Les told him about his stomach problems and he said it is common with liver cancer, it won't go away.
He told Les to continue to do what he is doing and call him if he has trouble.
I think Les feels better and will keep going for another three months until his next appointment.
Thanks for all your prayers,
Linda

3 month check up
Les sees Dr. Lee tomorrow, January 12th. He will not have a CAT scan this time, only blood tests. He has some questions for Dr. Lee and is hoping that the blood tests will show positive results. Thanks for your continued prayers.
He gets preoccupied and quiet closer to the appointment.
I will post the results of the appointment.
God Bless you!

Appointment
The tumors in Les's liver have doubled in size, but there are no new ones. That is good news. Dr. Lee said as long as Les is feeling okay and his blood work is okay, then he will continue to have an appointment with Dr. Lee every three to four months.
If Les starts to feel bad and/or loses his appetite, he needs to make an appointment as soon as possible. His next appointment is not until January and that is only an office visit and not a CAT scan. He will not have any more CAT scans until things start to change. The decision will be made at that time to have more tests if needed.
Les is handling the news as usual. Every day is a gift from God and he continues to make the most of them.
God Bless you all!

3 month appointment
Les is having a CAT scan today at 10:00 AM and has an appointment with Dr. Lee at 1:30 PM. Of course the nervousness began a couple of weeks ago, but on the whole he has handled it okay.
We will post with the results this evening.

Discouraging news
Les saw Dr. Lee today for the results of the CAT scan he had yesterday. During the eight week waiting period, three more tumors developed in his liver making a total of four.
Dr. Lee wants to wait three months, do another scan and decide then what to do. His reasoning is that Les's quality of life right now is good, his liver function and lab work are good, so he doesn't want to make things worse at this point.
It seems that Dr. Lee thinks the chemo will not be a good decision because it will be so intense that Les's quality of life will not be good and it would only add one more year to his life, at the most. Les thinks that he would rather have fewer good years than be sick for the rest of the years he has left, taking chemo.
As usual, Les has taken this news positively. He has come to terms with what he is dealing with and his decision. He wants to feel as good as he can for as long as he can. He is happy that his liver is functioning well, because that is always a concern and his lab tests are still good. He is not ready to give up. We are trusting the Lord to lead and surround us with his grace.
Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.
God bless you,
Linda

Still hanging on!
Les continues to live life as normal as possible while waiting for the next appointment on June 29th. His feet and legs are still numb, which makes walking sometimes hazardous, but he keeps going. He uses a cane most of the time and has a handicap sticker for the car. He has fallen a few times, but hasn't been hurt.
He is enjoying working in the yard as much as he can and is still working at the "Y" every morning.
We will let you know what we find out the end of June. Maybe he will have 8 more weeks of semi-normal, without chemo.
God Bless you all!
