The tumors in Les's liver have doubled in size, but there are no new ones. That is good news. Dr. Lee said as long as Les is feeling okay and his blood work is okay, then he will continue to have an appointment with Dr. Lee every three to four months.
If Les starts to feel bad and/or loses his appetite, he needs to make an appointment as soon as possible. His next appointment is not until January and that is only an office visit and not a CAT scan. He will not have any more CAT scans until things start to change. The decision will be made at that time to have more tests if needed.
Les is handling the news as usual. Every day is a gift from God and he continues to make the most of them.
God Bless you all!

3 month appointment
Les is having a CAT scan today at 10:00 AM and has an appointment with Dr. Lee at 1:30 PM. Of course the nervousness began a couple of weeks ago, but on the whole he has handled it okay.
We will post with the results this evening.

Discouraging news
Les saw Dr. Lee today for the results of the CAT scan he had yesterday. During the eight week waiting period, three more tumors developed in his liver making a total of four.
Dr. Lee wants to wait three months, do another scan and decide then what to do. His reasoning is that Les's quality of life right now is good, his liver function and lab work are good, so he doesn't want to make things worse at this point.
It seems that Dr. Lee thinks the chemo will not be a good decision because it will be so intense that Les's quality of life will not be good and it would only add one more year to his life, at the most. Les thinks that he would rather have fewer good years than be sick for the rest of the years he has left, taking chemo.
As usual, Les has taken this news positively. He has come to terms with what he is dealing with and his decision. He wants to feel as good as he can for as long as he can. He is happy that his liver is functioning well, because that is always a concern and his lab tests are still good. He is not ready to give up. We are trusting the Lord to lead and surround us with his grace.
Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.
God bless you,
Linda

Still hanging on!
Les continues to live life as normal as possible while waiting for the next appointment on June 29th. His feet and legs are still numb, which makes walking sometimes hazardous, but he keeps going. He uses a cane most of the time and has a handicap sticker for the car. He has fallen a few times, but hasn't been hurt.
He is enjoying working in the yard as much as he can and is still working at the "Y" every morning.
We will let you know what we find out the end of June. Maybe he will have 8 more weeks of semi-normal, without chemo.
God Bless you all!

8 more weeks!!!
The tumor on Les's liver has grown a very small amount in three months and there is no sign of cancer any place else. His liver function is down somewhat and one of the blood tests was not as good as it's been. However, Dr. Lee doesn't want to do anything right now since Les's quality of life is good right now and the next round of chemo would be very intense and hard on him.
Les will have another PET scan June 29th and see Dr. Lee on June 30th. At that time they may go ahead with the chemo.
Thank you for all of your prayers and concerns.

News today!
Les has an appointment with Dr. Lee at 2:45 PM today. He will get the results of the PET scan from yesterday. Dr. Lee will tell him the phase in his treatment. Probably more chemo, but possibly more surgery at KU.
Please lift him up in your prayers today.

Appointment update
Dr. Lee says that the results from the K lab show a chemo that the cancer will respond to. The plan is to wait one more month (this will be a total of 3 months since the CAT scan). On April 27th Les will have a PET scan to determine if they are dealing with cancer anywhere else, or just the tumor on the liver. He will see Dr. Lee on April 28th. At that time they will decide what to do. Options are the chemo treatments or another microwave radiation on the tumor on the liver. Les's liver cannot handle another major surgery, so this is not an option per Dr. Forrester and Dr. Lee.
So we are waiting one more month and praying that the cancer is contained in the liver.
Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.

Starting the fight again!
Les has an appointment with Dr. Lee Friday, March 27th at 9:30 AM. They have received the results of the tests from the lab. They will tell him what they have found and what the plan is for this round.
Please remember him in prayer. It seems to be as hard, if not harder this time, probably because we have had two "normal" months.
God Bless you all!

Resume the fight!
After Les's appointment was postponed last Tuesday, he went to see Dr. Lee yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, 1/27). The CAT scan shows another tumor in the live approximately 1/8" by 1/4"(relatively big for a cancer cell). This was not the news we prayed for, but it could be much worse.
Dr. Lee wants further tests to determine what direction to take now. For the next eight weeks he is having tests run on the cancer cells stored at Shawnee Mission Hospital; he will study the CAT scan and confer with Dr. Forrester. He does not want to do more chemo since it is obvious that the strong chemo did not work on the cancer cells in the liver.
The good news is that Les's liver is functioning well, and has restored itself 80% from the surgery in October. His blood tests are good and he is feeling well.
Dr. Lee does not want to knock him down with more chemo right now until they determine exactly what will work.
So in the mean time he is going on with his life. He feels better every day and his spirits are up. The future is in God's hands. We put all of our trust and faith in him.
Thank you for your prayers and comments.

Back to the Challenge
Well, we have had two months of almost normal. Les is feeling stronger and is able to do more things without getting so tired. He has had trouble with high blood pressure since his surgery in October and the cardiologist is trying to get that under control.
We are back to facing the challenge again since Les sees Dr. Lee next Tuesday, January 20th. He will have a CAT scan and blood work and Dr. Lee will decide what is next. We know that there will probably we at least 4 more chemo treatments, but beyond that we don't know.
Please keep him in your prayers as he is back to the reality of it all again.
God Bless you all,
Linda
